I am planning a trip to Cedar Lake in Oklahoma in May.  I have never been there before and the reservationist with the National Forest Service could not tell me if they have horse pens there.  Need to know if they do so I will know whether to take my corral panels with me or not.  Could use the space for something else if I do not need them.  Has anyone been there lately?

They do not have corrals there. We camp quite a bit there and it's a very nice place. AllI can say is make reservations or you'll be staying in the overflow. Lots of trails (and rocks). we like it and Robbers cave which is not to far away. You'll like it.

Safe riding,
Todd

On edit: I've attached a trail map of the Cedar Lake trails. It has a topo on it. About 80% of the trails on the map I've GPSed. It's a PDF file and should fit on an 11x17 sheet of paper

Todd,

Thanks for the info.  I've already made reservations.  Still trying to pull up the map.  Will get someone to help me tomorrow at work.

Hope the map works for you. It should, it's a PDF file so if you have Acrobat Reader on your machine you should be able to open it. If not you can go here to download th free reader
.http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

You'll definately like it out at Cedar Lake.

Safe Riding,
Todd

If you really want to know about Cedar lake, there is a group of trail riders in the forums at Horsebuddies.com under trail riding that can tell you anything you want to know. A bunch of them are planning a trip there soon. Here's a linky: http://horsebuddies.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=1

You should have fun there. We did. Even though we went on Memorial Weekend and got rained on. The picket line areas are a huge mess after a rain.

Enjoy your trip.

We are returning to a place close to there. It is at Talihina. Name is Horse Heaven. It is under new ownership since we were there last. The bank owned it last time. Should still be the same. The prices are.

Make sure you get directions (or do like we did and go find ) to the bar in the woods, it breaks up the day lol . I am sure you will enjoy the place if you like to ride and the camping is good

The camp and trails at Cedar Lake (Hodgen, Oklahoma) are good. Last trip we made there got 16" snow (early April 2011). They do have pens and hook-ups. As for Robber's Cave, nice stopover on way to better. There is Devils Den (Woods Fork, Arkansas), lots of trails and OK camp with nice shower facilities. This is just a 2-3 hour drive from Cedar Lake...

Arial photo's sure make it look like there are two pens at each site. I've been planning a trip there, just haven't figured out when yet.

Last time I was there we had two pens per site. This is a nice well maintained place to ride. The heated bath houses are well maintained also. We have been there numerous times
