was talking to mr. smith this past may ride he said nothing of selling out. they are installing concrete dump stations for the used bedding etc. through out the camp ground.

Good luck finding fuel. I have friends that were going Labor day week and they were told by friends out there they couldn't find fuel. He didn't want to take the chance of getting out there and haveing to drive miles to find fuel. He was on the road out there and came back to Indiana and went camping at Brown Co. Good luck!!

made it back from cross country trail ride no problem in geting gas.there were about 1800 riders there,seems that the attendance was down .had a little raim sunday part of the hurricane,but after sunday all was good a little hot but not bad. lots of good rideing.

We are planning on going to CCTR for the May Trail Ride. We have never been there before, Could some one tell me what its like? We intend to Tent Camp. What food's are also served? What are the trails like?

Every time I have been the place has been packed. There will be people camping in every possible configuration. The food is good. To the best of my knowledge the mess hall is not air conditioned, but you should not have to worry about that in May. The trails vary. There are trails where you will come across lots of rocks on them. I would make sure I had a good set of shoes on my horses when I went. There will lots of entertainment during the week. All in all, I would recommend it for a week trip. Hope you have fun.

I have been going to CCTR in May for 13 years and it is my favorite place to ride. There are around 1000 to 1200 riders in May and it is not crowded. Food is good and there is lots to do besides riding. Most riders have their horses padded due to the rocks. There are farriers on site that can pad your horse at reasonable rates. You need to be prepared for varied weather conditions. I would suggest winter clothes, summer clothes, rain gear, rubber boots,etc. Be prepared to have a good time!

Thanks for the replies. We have thought about going for the last several years, but something always came up. Anyway, In your opinion would the trails safe for a 3yr old with about 60 days riding? She has been shown, and trail riden, but hasn't been around THAT many horses at once.... I was planning on having her shod prior to our trip, I am hesitant to put pads on her, so I'm wondering if you all think shoes and easyboots would be enough protection? Thanks again,

The trails vary around the camp. You can find some easy trails to start her out on. Just ask some people in camp about getting on some easy trails. We did not pad our horses when we went. However, after riding around the fox pen the first time, we wished we had. I would not be opposed to it by any means. It might be better to play it safe and have them padded just in case.

CCTR is a good place to ride. We have a group of about 5 couples in May and 15 couples that go in OCT. It is always alot of fun and there are many trails to ride. I would suggest that you purchase a map, bring a GPS and head out. They have organized rides to get on, but we have only been on one. We most always get various groups of people to go out and just explore together. It is alot of fun but the best part of it is meeting and making friends.Good luck and have a good day...Ron/Dawn

We have been to CCTR twice. Like it, but not the crowds. They do feed you good and you will gain weight.
For those that are interested there are 4 different primitive campgrounds for horse camping in the same area, Contact the National Park Service and they will tell you. We did this last year. Debbie

I have been going every oct. for 23 yrs missed one time but did go in Dec. that year now they don,t have the Dec. ride only about 100 people went. Oct. is a different story 2000 - 3500. Great place to ride but I reccomend padding your horse on the front if you ride alot. Not necessary if you ride a lawn chair. The nice thing about this ride is it is right in the middle of town and you can ride your horse to get most anything there is a trailerdealer onsite that will put on a new jack or awning or AC onthe grounds He is a Hart dealer Exiss is down on the corner and 4 star across the road. Big western store and a big tack place. But tent camping is not the best did it once and that was enough

I saw your thread, I have posted once, but might ask you the question. I was at the Oct. trail ride and a woman there was very helpful to me. I wanted to thank her personally, but we left early. She spent a great deal of time with the veterinarian at the trail rides, I think they ate most meals together, i thought they might be husband and wife, would you be able to direct me to where I might be able to find her
