I always over pack. Since this is our first long trail ride. 7 days between 12 and 16 miles a day what sould we take. We are doing the star of texas trail ride to the rodeo. It travels all of the back roads between Fredrickburg and Austin. I grew up in the area so this will be big fun on horseback. I would like input on what I might need to take along. I dont want to have to borrow anything etc.

Tylenol, sunblock, your favorite smelling sports cream, sunglasses, headphones/batteries.  I have a checklist I use whenever I go trail riding or camping.

Along with some of the things Terri mentioned I always carry something to drink, halter & lead rope, carmex, leatherman's tool, leather shoe string for tack repair, kleenex, cell phone, depending on weather-rain gear or extra coat, munchies if you'd like, money if  store along the way.  ID for yourself if it's a real large group and you might get separated from your group (in case of emergency). If it's going to be really hot, electrolite for your horse.  I can get most things in a waist bag or my saddlebags.  The halter & lead I tie to my strings on the front of the saddle and rain gear I tie on the back tie strings.

Sounds like fun, have a great & safe ride!

Lots and lots of Xanax for the regimented head to tail riding you're going to experience. We usually do in 5 to 8 hours riding what you will in 3 or 4 days. And yes, I am familiar with that ride. They used to send invitations to our club every year but guess they finally decided that endurance riders weren't really interested in riding that slowly. Anyway, I really hope that you will enjoy the ride if you choose to participate.

I am sure I will remember all the stuff for me I was more worried about the horses. I have been riding them a few miles a day to get them in shape. I know it isnt endurance riding but it is a big change from events we normally do.
Thanks for all the sugestions so far

The first thing that I would have to take is lot's of coffee or no doze and lot's of nerve pills, I don't drink coffee or take no doze but have taking nerve pills due to being around to many kids or working with the boss. I wouldn't be able to stay awake, I know people enjoy the road rides and I have passed these kind of rides in Texas before and wonder why then I think well they must enjoy it and I shouldn't judge them.
A trail ride is a trail ride and a road ride is something I do while I am hauling the mules down the road to the next trail head or camp, good luck and take the right shoes for all the chances that you take slipping and a sliding on the roads, the worst wrecks that I have ever seen was while riders were crossing a black top road or being on a road to the next trail entrance.

I feel the same about trail rides, but have to say that it's because the ones I went on were not well run. The first one a kid (10 years old) started roping my horse's back heels while we were riding. The second one a group of adults (?) wanted to race by where the riders were tiny lead-liners to see if they could make the horses spook. The third (and last) one, a friend got kicked by another horse and laid her knee open and ended up in the hospital. Four or five sane people who know what they're doing is trail ride enough for me. Not trying to step on anyone's toes-just relating a number of bad experiences.

here's a link to a list you can use to check off the items you might need for your ride. this is specifically for CTR but may help you with something you wouldn't have thought of,  it's been very helpful to me.

have a great time and go safely.
