If you are moving to TN you will need to know that TN has 3 grand divisions (this has political significance too, as only 2 members of the Supreme Court can be from any one grand division), west, middle and east.  There is no south TN.  From your description, I'd say you are going to be near Lewisburg, which would put you in the middle of middle TN.  This will put you right in the heart of twh country.  A bunch of us will be at Circle E in Belvidere, TN the last weekend in October.  Come camp and ride !

Hey Jan, does it make us traitors of the west when we cross the TN river?    It always amazes me the difference in the people as you cross the state.  It's like the language changes as well.

Okey dokey then...  guess I opened up a whole new topic.  didn't realize there were such definate divisions in the state of Tenn.   the land we're buying is in Giles County.  I've heard mention of the KKK.  anything else we need to know?  hell.  all I want to do is enjoy riding  and competing my horses and semi retire!

you will be fine in giles county,i dont know how big of a town you are in now, when you go from 140,000+ to 60,000 its a little shocking. you have to learn to slow slow down if your going to retire you want have to worry about that.when you get here write me i can put you onto a great hay source (finally) after 3 yrs,,just found him hay is endless...he has like 4 huge barns.. good luck,,, oh if you ride at circle e your going to like it,,we are going sometime in oct just not sure when,,riding time is here ye ha... happy trails

I agree, you are in a nice part of the state.  You are close to several riding options by heading east or west.  I have taken hay to middle TN this year a few times.  They seem to be hurting more than we are in this area.  There are alot of good folks in that area.

Didn't intend to slam Middle TN;  I was born in Nashville; went to school in Chattanooga; moved to Memphis;  then moved to Madison County (Jackson area).  Just happen to like West TN the best.

Hi - middle TN is a great place to ride endurance. There are several endurance rides within 5 hours of Nashville: Big South Fork, Willow Creek, Skymont, City Slickers, LBL, Trace Tribute, Derby Dash. There are also lots of places to train: Natchez Trace Parkway, Natchez Trace State Park, Duck River, Percy Warner, Stones River.

Competent farriers that have experience with performance horses can be VERY hard to find. You'll find lots of walking horse shoers that shoe with a lot of toe. You'll also see a lot of guys that have no formal education or apprenticeship - they just nail shoes on. But I guess you will find that anywhere! Private message me and I can give you referrals.

There are lots of endurance riders near where I live in the Santa Fe/Primm Springs area which is about an hour north of Giles County. We'd love to show you the area and give you more scoop on hay, vets, etc.

Good luck with your move.

Guess you planned on being right at Natchez Trace State Park, huh?  We were there last weekend at the Wrangler Camp.  Lovely weekend as always.  Nice rain so no dust.  Look forward to seeing you there!
