Whispering Pines is a tired, run down campground... last time we went by they still had the plug-ins/hookups screwed to the trees w/extension cords running all over the place... There was a small shack/office, and a yound man working on the old bath house that needs torn down. It is OK if you have everything you need. Stalls were pretty rickety. Trails were cool... it is right accross the river from "Big Creek", a fair campground with prison style food... some of it is OK, but I think it is too pricey for what it is. Are you stuck on that particular area? I'm shooting straight here because we have had way too many misguided trips and put out $$$$ for places that were not up to snuff.

Try Big Creek which is right down the road as the crow flies. And Big Creek flows to the current, so you can go play in the creek if it is too hot to ride. They are open year round, not just on organized rides. Several people from WP have ridden to Big Creek for lunch during the oganized rides.
Yes, the river is down the road or through the woods at WP, but it is not like right at the camp.
Whispering Pines is for sale, so updates to the campground probably is not going to happen.

Thank you for the info. We are committed to WP this trip but will try out your suggestions in the future. Am new to the forum, but did a lot of trailer research here before we traded. A good site for info. Thanks again.

The Current River isnt to far from camp by car if you wanna go down there to swim after a day of riding. Out of camp by horseback it is about 30 minutes. It is a nice area to ride, but the campground is worn out. They have done some updates to the shower and restrooms, flushing toilets now. The campsites are really close together, i prefer to go on a non holiday weekend as they arent near as packed in. We highly recommend and prefer Slabtown. We need to quit recommending it as he is getting busier and busier and it is harder to get a reservation.

Julep we will be there, we already have a reservation!! We have been on the books for that weekend for a couple of months now. Greg is planning a pumpkin hunt for that weekend as well. Cant wait for some cooler weather!! We need to make sure to hook up while we are there, put some faces to names. Do you all go there frequently?

Onemile, we used to go a lot but have not been this year except for one day of meeting friends over there. Look for a 42 ft Featherlite trailer with a maroon dodge dually. We will be with at least two other couples. One of them has a Bison trailer with a silver dodge dually. Look forward to meeting you.

Been there... nice trails and scenery...Campground is ok... bathrooms and showers ok.. It's a Campground, NOT the Ritz! Horse stalls looked fine to us... enjoy your ride, and Judge for yourself.

Just back from WP. Enjoyed it. Trails are great. Grounds were completely full, I think. Still very quiet on our end. Electric good. Stalls were fine and close. Didn't use shower house. Was not looking for prepared food. Sometimes low water pressure. Visited river by car and on horseback, too far to walk. Met some nice people. All things considered, WP had what we were looking for in a campground. We plan to go back. And we plan to try out some others.

Went to WP Labor Day Weekend. Had a good time. Trails were great. Campground was clean. Sites were close together, but we had 4 or 5 trailers in our group and had them close together anyway. If you are lookinig for a campground, not a resort, then this is a good place to go.
