We're going to look at a custom built GN 1999 18' Eby stock combo next week ... does anyone have familiarity with known issues or concerns around these years with Eby trailers? It's all aluminum, including the floor. Seems to be in good condition otherwise.
Another point that I'd like someone to weigh in on -- the design of the trailer is very different -- a 70" x 72" open box space at the rear of the trailer, 72" of stall space with a divider, and 30" of manger space. The only exit door (other than the back gate) is in through the dressing room-- no side escape door. We were hoping to load two horses in the front, and then our sleigh or cart behind them. I really prefer to haul the cart as in front in the event of an emergency, we'd want the horses out first. With no 'escape door' and a cart (potentially) behind them, is this too much of a safety hazard?

You cannot go wrong with an Eby. They are built like tanks. Make sure to check the floor for corrosion. That suggestion is not a comment on the quality of the trailer but a reference to the fact that not all people maintain trailers like they should!

I agree with Cutter. Eby has enjoyed an excellent reputation for quality materials and construction details. Their stock trailers are always well regarded, when compared to any other brand. A fabricator could add an escape door, if then your total costs are still within your budget. Specific parts can be sourced from Eby, who makes custom trailers to many specifications and configurations.
They are built in Eastern PA, so any future physical contact with the factory, would not be insurmountable from NH. I don't know if they would consider a factory retro fit and modifications to your trailer, but it might be worth a call to find out.

Thanks! We picked it up last week and are already enjoying it. I think we're going to use it for awhile to get a feel for what we want to change, if anything... Our horses seem to love to ride in it... and we've had it checked out by a local place to ensure everything is in working order. The technician was shocked it was a '99 it was in such great shape! Thanks all, for the input!
