I'm considering doing LQ conversion on a 2004 Stidham w/ 6'short wall and wondering if anyone has used a standalone/portable Air Conditioning unit (vented into horse area or out side wall) instead of a ceiling mount AC? seems easier than cutting a hole in the ceiling. Looking for any omput. Not this specific unit but something along this lines http://www.homedepot.com/p/LG-Electronics-14-000-BTU-Portable-Air-C...

In my opinion the roof mounted is the way to go. Out of the way, nothing to set up, cycles off automatically when temperature is achieved , etc. The portable model needs the condenser air vented to outdoors and the ubit takes up floor space

Roof mount. I probably wouldn't bother with the LQ. It will sell better as is. Go get yourself a nice used LQ unit. You will be better off. Or, keep it clean, and do it right.... I've seen so many hack jobs on weekenders, then they want more $$$ for their mess. Sorry.

Does your weekender have a 14" x 14" hole for a roof vent? If so, as long as the supports are there, a roof mount is easier and definitely the way to go. They will mount directly in the hole for the roof vent.

I've had both and the ceiling AC unit is my choice. If you're on a limited budget, the portable AC unit is the way to go. You need to look at how long you plan to keep trailer and what funds you have to work with. When I priced to have an ceiling unit put it, it was over $1,000 at the time and using a portable unit cost me under $400. I took my trailer to the local glass repair business and had them make me a hole in the slide part of the window. They had a plexi glass piece that would slide over the hole when I wasn't using the unit and it worked out great and was the cheapest route for me to go. The unit sat under my table and I bought the unit during the end of the season sales so got one at a great price. If you have the funds and plan to keep your trailer long term, the ceiling AC unit is much easier and would make resale of the trailer easier.
