Good afternoon! I have a question...but first the set-up. I just bought a 1989 Lazy N 4-horse straight load goose neck with living quarters. This beast is 40-foot long and 8-foot wide!! My question is: Is this too much to ask my 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 7.3L diesel to pull? I ask because I had my u-joints replaced (they REALLY needed it) BEFORE hooking onto this monster and have since shattered 1 and had a yolk chip on another.

Thanks in advance for your time!!

Have the trailer weighed....I'll bet you are double the rating for your truck

Way too much of a trailer for a 250. May be too much for a 350 with dual rears. You will have to have the trailer weighed to determine the pin weight. That will determine what model of truck is applicable.

A 250/2500 is definitely not enough truck for a trailer like that. even if it did/could pull it, it'd never stop it in a hurry.

So any ideas on what is best to pull my trailer? According to the Ford towing guide for my year and model, the max is 13,200 lbs. The same year, with the same engine in an F-350 has a rating of 13,000 for dualies or 13,300 for SRW.

I'd say the front 20'-25' is LQ. I'll measure tonight.

I wouldn't touch that trailer with anything less then a 1.5 ton or 2 ton truck.

Holy smokes, that trailer is a monster! What did the previous owner haul it with? How long did they own it? I would weight it, but knowing what I know I would have NEVER hitched that to a 250. You are killing your truck, be careful on the roads if you must move this beast.

I didn't buy it from the actual previous owners...I found it on a lot. Of course the salesman told me they brought it in with a 3/4 ton. According to the stickers on the back, they had show mules. And the LQ is 21 feet.

Our trailer is not quite that large and we pull it with a Kenworth T-300 now... after selling our F-350 dually 4x4 because it did not have enough braking power for the hills around here.... You are way overloaded there.Sorry.

I would buy a class 8 semi with an 11.1 Detroit, m11 cummins or smaller cat engine. Yes they have more miles but can be fixed at almost any truck dealership. You pay about 1/3 of a "four door freightliner" or similar. I sent my daughter on the road with a 2004 m2 freightliner and when it broke down (which was plenty) nobody wanted to work on it. Including my local dealer. We finally downsized truck AND trailer. You definitely need more truck than you have for one that big!
