Any other choices? Recent posts indicate that Lakota might not build the most well engineered horse compartment and they have problems with tires. My experiences with Sundowners is that they can best be described as feeling like they are dragging, not towing, behind the truck. Basically the older ones pull like they have 4 flat tires. (Pull a Sundowner and then a Featherlite and you'll know what I'm saying.) I haven't even been around the newer Sundowners as people around here swore them off after the whole Valuelite troubles, and we are within an hour of the factory...to me that says something.

I believe that 2005 sunlite trailer may have a steel frame..... Lakota is all aluminum. Question for huntseat..... What are the horse compartment problems/engineering and tire issues with the Lakota? Most all trailers have tire issues, most likely because they are overloaded, out of date and run half flat at too higher speed!!!

See the thread Exiss Trailer Blues, page 2 Acy makes a statement regarding the horse compartment...Lakota uses the Tow Max (AKA Blow Max) tires from the factory and you can search threads about them.

Just my opinion, but we have no issues with our 2014 Lakota 3 horse 8ft wide horse area. Floors are solid ,good mats, mangers, and drop down windows, dividers, and hardware are all solid. Doors work well and we got the 50/50 doors on ours so the tack area is bigger and it's all insulated. We like it as well as we did our 2002 Sundowner (same size). Our 5 friends that bought them also have no issues as far as I've heard. As for the tires, I posted about having tire problems. But from what I can tell most Trailers and RV's use them or the Goodyears (which are now made in China to)and many problems have been reported with both.So you can order them with better tires or do what I did and run them for a while then change them out.

Virtually every trailer has various tire options. They all can come with top-shelf rubber, you just have to order it that way. There are too many folks that are particular about tires for a manufacturer to use only one "good" one.

One dealer says he puts Goodyears on his trailers. But I know a guy who took them right off and tossed them in favor of Michelin. So go figure. If you don't like the tires on a trailer, just head to the nearest tire shop- there's one on every corner. And there are as many opinions about tires, as there are actual tires. Just my opinion.

I have a 2007 Lakota, 10 foot 4 horse. I have one of the last trailers with a third party LQ. When I bought the trailer I was told it had 33 gallon black/gray tanks. It had 10 gallon tanks. Long story short Lakota fixed my trailer at no cost to me. They stand by their product. Now to the quality of my trailer: The LQ is of good quality a balance between strength and weight. The fresh water tank is 105 gallon!!!?? Thanks to Lakota I now have 33 gallon black and gray tanks. The mattress is not my foam mattress we have at home but it works. The heat, AC and fridge all work great.Shower keeps us clean. The doors all stay closed while driving. We have great storage space. Now to the build quality:My wife is an airframe and power plant machanic, she fixes jets. She knows how to weld aluminum and she can ID a bad rivet from a mile away. We bought our trailer new at Quarter Horse Congress. She said that our Lakota was one of the best built trailer that was in our price range and weight range. We have not used our trailer a great deal over the past 2 years because I was injured but the few trips we have taken the trailer performs fine. The bad:I dumped the tires right after I bought it and put Firestone LT tires under it.That is it for the bad. When we get another trailer it will be a LakotaMy trailer is a multi-use trailer. It hauls horses but also carries my Jeep, it does both just fine, just not at the same time.Jeepplr and or ResQ5hvy

Just my opinion (and everybody has one) but I'd never buy another Lakota. I purchased one new in 2006 or 2007 and had nothing but problems with it. it never stopped leaking, even after being towed back to the factory for repairs. the rivets on the padding in the horse part popped off, the drop down windows were flapping in the breeze when down, it was missing brake parts, it had cracked welds, and lots of other issues. I think for the same $ you could do better with another brand.
