What is going to be the best way to repair the roof of a steel horse trailer that is rusted a bit in a couple spots and is pulling away from the sides of the trailer? Do I have to replace the whole roof? It's pulled away just a little in two spots. It seems to be overkill to really have to replace the whole thing. Looking for advice on a method or anyone who has dealt with this.I have an Arc style welder. My sons friend has an Acetyline and MIG. Wondering if I should have my sons friend come over and do it, instead of using the Arc welder. Trying to figure out who I go to for a welding favor. I have several people that owe me favors that have welders, or know how to weld LOL

Having a welder and knowing how to use one is two different things. It sounds like to me it would be fairly easy to repair especially being a steel trailer. Find someone that can weld and have them cut out the rusted spots and then add new metal to those areas. Weld it up and paint it, should be good to go. As far as calling in favors, I dunno.

Ok so that helps me figure out who I need to call for a favor. I know what my sons friends have for welders. I didn't think Arc would do it. My son has an Arc. He knows how to weld. I'm just learning. I wouldn't attempt it on my own. I just needed to know who to kind of call.Thank you

Don't try to install a continuous weld for sheet metal repairs, it will quickly result in warped panels. You will want to put in many spot welds, gradually filling the seams until a solid weld is accomplished. The amount of welding material and heat will depend on how thick is the metal, and what type of steel was used. An experienced welder will know this from experience. Once the seams are filled in, the surface is ground smooth and the areas are converted, sealed, primed and then painted.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using an arc welder for this repair in the hands of someone that knows how to use it properly.
